FARM JOURNAL

Notes from the beds.

This is where we keep track of what actually happens in the field—planting days, soil decisions, weather notes, and the small details that shape each harvest.

OCTOBER 21, 2025 · PLANTING

Music garlic goes in the ground.

We set the first cloves of the season into beds A1–A3, using a 6x8 inch spacing to keep a bit more airflow between plants. Soil was still holding moisture from last week’s rain, so we skipped additional irrigation.

OCTOBER 10, 2025 · SOIL

Compost, cover crops, and prepping the fall beds.

Added a thin layer of finished compost to beds B1–B2 and turned in the last of the summer cover crop. The goal is to keep the structure intact while giving the soil just enough organic matter before garlic goes in.

Bed blocks: B1–B2 · Inputs: compost + cover crop · Weather: overcast, 58°F

SEPTEMBER 28, 2025 · PLANNING

Mapping garlic blocks for the coming season.

Laid out the plan for this year’s garlic beds, keeping Music as the anchor and reserving a small section for trial varieties. Marked out irrigation lines and noted where shade and slope might affect early growth.
